BPI is hiring an Industrial Innovation Lead.
This position is being recruited by the Bioproducts Institute to lead a new project titled “Scaling Up BC’s Bioproducts”, and to provide a technical lead role in its Technology Evaluation, De-risking, Scale-up, and Commercialization Unit (TEDSCU). The goal of the project is to develop prototypes, and scale-up fabrication of bio-based nonwovens, light-weight materials and micro-particles using BC’s local resources to fulfil targeted application needs. The project engages participants along the value chain, from forest industries and research centers, to leaders in knowledge translation, SMEs, start-up and manufacturers.
The key activities during the project are:
- Upgrade lab, acquire, install and commission equipment in the Pulp and Paper Centre to establish, develop and refine bioproducts
- Process and convert different feedstocks into materials and bioproducts in collaboration with partners and engage stakeholders and customers as appropriate
- Support along the value chain to accelerate scale-up, technology de-risking of targeted processes and pre-prototypes, complete associated techno-economic and environmental analysis.
This role requires the candidate to be a technically competent specialist, particularly in manufacturing using the new cutting equipment, ideally related to lignocellulosic material, and has significant business experience from the industry (techno-economic assessments and de-risking strategies) in order to lead the TEDSCU areas.
